The Year of the Dragon

Happy Chinese new year, we are now in the year of the Dragon.

The Dragon is a big deal in Chinese culture and symbolises strength and magnanimity. There was a baby boom in China 12 years ago when it was last The year of the Dragon as people wanted their children to be ambitious, confident and charismatic- all traits associated with the Dragon.

When it comes to Interior design schemes this one certainly has all the characteristics associated with the Dragon!

This large principal bedroom suite  is one of my favourite rooms that I designed last year, It has been transformed with an eclectic mix of patterns and strong colours.

Having work with my clients already on other rooms in their home I knew that they love bold statement rooms and like to mix old and new. We were fortunate that the room has some lovely Architectual details to work with such as the cast iron fireplace in the bedroom and a bay window in the En suite.

The starting point for the design was this gorgeous wallpaper- ‘Double Dragon’ in colour Fire by Linwood Fabrics

teamed with Little Greene paint ‘Orange Aurora’ and another feature wall covering on the chimney breast it certainly looks striking and the feel is incredibly homely.

With the mix of paints, wallpapers, lighting & flooring we sourced from 10 different suppliers to put the scheme together and that’s with reusing existing furniture- although we did have the bedhead reupholstered!
