A selection of fabrics and wallpapers from the collaboration between Giles Deacon & Sanderson

New Fabric & Wallpaper collaboration from Sanderson x Giles Deacon

New fabric & wallpaper collections are always exciting to see but when they are a collaboration between a Fashion designer and a historic fabric house. The results is a collection of 37 wallpapers & 34 fabrics that are playful, unexpected and nostalgic.

Designer Giles Deacon has been a well known name in the fashion world for over twenty years having been head designer at Bottega Veneta, Assistant to Tom Ford at Gucci and has had his own label ‘GILES’ since 2003. Having always designed his own prints and jacquards for the couture collection the transition across to furnishings was seamless.

There is a true synergy of Sanderson and Giles, mixing modern and traditional designs from archives- The results are an Intriguing collection with drama and oozes British eccentricity. The expected selection of Floral, Trellis & stripe that one would expect to see in a country house scheme is present but layered up with Giles’ world and full of surprises, Look closely at the trellis and it is actually the pattern of chicken wire with it’s delicate twists.

Sandersons ‘Etches and Roses’ design is over 10 years old but with hand drawn bows added by Giles and a whole new colour palette has created a beautiful new wallpaper design with a hand printed feel with a layered technique of printing.

My favourite design is ‘Aperigon’ – a stripe that is beautiful as a rich regency satin stripe that is sumptuous for curtains & cushions, scaled up as coarse woven linen mix perfect for upholstering a sofa or headboard and then a simple printed wallpaper that is a versatile backdrop. The Aperigon design comes from Giles’ archive and can be seen on couture  pieces such as the jacket pictured.

The colour palette for the collection is harmonious with nature and all have the same soft undertones making them incredibly usable.
